Encounter Mara’s sister company, African Impact, hosts a volunteering site in Mara Naboisho Conservancy where volunteers get involved in vital conservation and wildlife research.
Volunteers have the opportunity to assist with lion research through the Big Cat Monitoring Project, which monitors the lions, cheetahs, and leopards in the conservancy through night drives, creating animal profiles, and photography.
The Koiyaki Guiding School (KGS) aims to educate local Masai to be guides and spotters in the Masai Mara and surrounding conservancies. Because 85% of current guides in the Masai Mara are not from the area, (KGS) is enabling Masai to reclaim their homeland through the development of marketable professional skills. Volunteers at African Impact Masai Mara help to facilitate learning, especially sharing their own cultural heritage and language to make guides more adaptable.
Volunteers also run a weekly environment club at Olesere Primary School, encouraging learning about the environment and conservation through interactive methods. Students at Olesere learn to value their unique “backyard” and to spread environmental awareness on to their communities.
